The Cambodian Cultural Heritage organization will be hosting two cultural aritist workshops on Friday, August 11th from 1-3 pm at the Khmer Community Center Seattle-King County . Youriko Neang and Prach Ly will discuss their artworks and the impact their talents have on the community.
Youriko Neang is a classical Khmer instructor. She moved to the U.S. in her teens and immediately began helping out the community, particularly the youths in the White Center area. Youriko taught classical and folks dances, painting, drawing, fruit sculpting and Khmer language classes at the Khmer community center. She even earned the title of Miss Cambodia of Washington in 2004 at the age of 17. Currently, she resides in California.
Prach Ly is a rising Khmerican rap artist here in the U.S. and abroad, particularly in his ancestral homeland of Cambodia. Prach's moving lyrics and beats reflect the experiences of Cambodians who have suffered and survived the Khmer Rouge genocide and what the community is going through in Cambodia, the U.S. and in other nations. His empowering lyrics in both Khmers and English brings understanding between the older and younger generations in the Cambodian community, and even across cultures. You can also find out more about Prach on his website: www.mujestic.com.
