"Massacre in Korea" by Pablo Picasso (1951)
ASIAN HIP HOP SUMMIT 1
Held on April 20, 2002 in Seoul International Park in Koreatown, Los Angeles,
the first Asian Hip Hop Summit commemorated the 10th anniversary
of the Los Angeles Riots by showcasing Korean and pan-Asiatic performers
and by raising money for North Korean famine victims.
Asian Hip Hop Summit was pioneering in that there had been virtually no concerts
featuring Korean or pan-Asiatic musicians in Los Angeles before 2002,
even though LA and Orange County have the biggest Asian population in the US.
Today, Asian musicians for an Asian audience are a common reality in LA.
The first Asian Hip Hop Summit is also credited with creating
the K-Town-centered, teen-dominated Asian hip hop scene & subculture
in Los Angeles that has spawned countless outstanding Asiatic talent.
Asian Hip Hop Summit 1 was hosted by Slant (Ted Chung),
the stage manager was Kublai Kwon, the stage DJs were
Denkym (1st performance) & Dwenz (Foundation Funkcollective),
and the MC Battle Champ was 18 year old NoCanDo (Project Blowed).
Performers: 2Mex, Jupitersciples, Nemo, Prach Ly, Shin-B, Karmacy,
